General Information

This call is open for projects that engage with current needs in the promotion of good data practices in a defined context as "executable applications" for data in research.

Who can apply?

  • Core teams with up to three key collaborators with a coordinating PI assuming also managerial tasks.
  • The coordinating PI must be based at a university or non-university research institution in Vienna
  • Co-PIs may be based outside of Vienna (funding limited to 20% of the overall budget)
  • All applications must be pre-screened and authorized by the PI's institutions, otherwise, submission of proposals to this call is not possible (Uni Vienna deadline is October 6, 2025)

Funding

  • Project duration: 12-24 months
  • Budget for individual projects: € 50,000 - 100,000
  • Overall call volume: € 800,000 Personnel and non-personnel costs can be claimed; max. 30% non-personnel costs
  • In-kind contributions are not mandatory; no overhead costs will be paid

Timeline

  • Internal deadline for short proposals is October 6, 2025
  • Expected funding decision: End of February 2026
  • Project start until: July 1, 2026

 

Procedure for Applications at the University of Vienna:

As only a limited number of applications can be submitted, projects will be preselected in an internal university process (Rectorate together with the Research Data Management Team).

Interested applicants can send a brief description to the Research Data Management Team (michael.feichtinger@univie.ac.at) by October 6, 2025.

The content of the project should be discussed in advance with the Research Data Management Team. Please also inform the head/dean's office of the center/faculty where the project is to be carried out. The Rectorate will then select the projects that can submit a full application to the WWTF by October 21, 2025.

Contents & scope Brief description:

  •     Max. 350 words
  •     Names of the core team members (up to three PIs)
  •     Description of the relevance to the objectives of the call
  •     Strategy for medium- and long-term institutional anchoring of the project

Procedure:

  •     October 6: Internal deadline for short proposals: Submission of short abstracts, project titles, and names of core team members (to michael.feichtinger@univie.ac.at)
  •     By October 21: Selection of applications to be submitted by the Rectorate
