FWF - first approvals in ESPRIT

Since spring 2021, researchers have been able to submit to ESPRIT, and there is great interest in doing so. At the current meeting of the Board of Trustees, 65 applications (18.9 million €) were submitted for decision. Of these, 18 excellently reviewed projects with a volume of €5.2 million were approved (approval rate: 27,7%), with exactly half of the funding going to women. Thus, the FWF was able to fulfil a central intention in the programme design, namely to ensure equality in the allocation of funds as well.

With the ESPRIT career programme, the FWF supports highly qualified postdocs regardless of their discipline. The new offer evolved from the Lise Meitner and Hertha Firnberg Programmes and is characterised by a higher funding budget, longer project durations and more flexibility in the use of funds. Particular attention is paid to the promotion of female careers.
